As the US specialty markets further saturate, one pet specialist, Petco, is starting the year off with a major announcement. In a January 24th notice to the BMV (Bolsa Mexicana de Valores), Grupo Gigante announced a new partnership with Petco to open stores in Latin America.

2012 ended with local sources citing talks of a potential CVS acquisition of Drogaria Onofre (Valor Economico and Epoca Negocios) and 2013 is starting off with accelerating chatter regarding the potential merger. If CVS were to acquire Drogaria Onofre, it would mark the US retailer’s first entry into Latin America and first expansion outside of the United States. Reportedly, CVS is looking to pay between R$ 650 – 800 for an 80% stake in the company.
