Best Buy surprisingly used red signage for ‘Savings’ on major items throughout the store on Black Friday, but only distinctly promoted Black Friday deals and free delivery in the large appliances section that included refrigerators, washing machines etc. A wide range of TVs were merchandised at all areas of the store, including in the middle of key store traffic areas.
Walmart started trialing new digital services in this Alabama Supercenter, including ModiFace, a device that enables customers to digitally test makeup before buying it, as well as its widely rolled-out, automated pickup kiosk. As described in our Store of the Future report, retailers are adding a variety of new digital capabilities to make the store experience superior to online shopping and better engage with shoppers. This technology also reduces tester products provided by suppliers, which effectively cuts costs. This store merchandises a large selection of Holiday items, signage that points to gift ideas, and standalone seasonal displays that are primarily brand-led.
For this Holiday season, Macy’s required that customers book appointments online to visit Santa at its Herald Square store, although previously it held a first come, first serve policy. The location featured ‘Santaland’, a dedicated space for the appointments, and its traditionally intricate Holiday store displays.
