Amazon US doubles down on smart homes with eero acquisition
Amazon, Tuesday, Feb 12, 2019
Amazon has announced the acquisition of eero, a company that offers a wireless network of devices aimed at overcoming Wi-fi coverage issues. Using multiple access points, users can achieve strong Wi-fi signal throughout their home and control the system through a mobile app.
This move follows Amazon’s previous acquisitions of smart doorbell and camera makers Ring and Blink, aimed at growing its smart device footing. Within a crowded router market, shoppers have multiple providers to choose from, despite Apple discontinuing its AirPort product last year. Eero will need to differentiate its offer significantly to gain share, leveraging Amazon’s support to drive down price or become an exclusive benefit for Prime members.
