Walmart is testing a new lease-to-own program in its electronics and entertainment department with Progressive Leasing. The pilot is currently being tested in 100 Dallas-area stores. Customers are eligible for the lease-to-own program for most of the products in the electronics department as long as their basket value exceeds $200. The partnership comes as Walmart and Sam's Club have been struggling with electronics sales in recent quarters due to the increasing shift towards ordering online. The program allows Walmart to reach out to rent-to-own customers, customers who cannot afford big ticket items, or customers without credit cards or sufficient cash funds because they will be able to pay for products in monthly installments instead of all at once.
